Beyond Dixon – Old Roots, New Roads

Beyond Dixon is a Bluegrass/Newgrass band led by bassist Gary Upton, whose lifelong musical background and newfound love for bluegrass have shaped the band’s direction, tone, and evolving identity. Drawing on decades of performance, craftsmanship, and deep study of acoustic sound, Gary brings a grounded, rhythm-driven foundation to the project—approaching the genre with clarity, respect, and a fresh, creative perspective.

Gary is joined in creative partnership by guitarist and vocalist Cab Burkhart, whose collaboration brings warmth, drive, and a distinct identity to the group’s sound. Cab’s high-lonesome delivery and vocal tone—rich with color and complexity—add the emotional lift and bluegrass authenticity that define Beyond Dixon’s character.

Based in the Northeast, Beyond Dixon blends traditional string-band roots with modern arrangements, tight vocal blends, and a rhythm-forward pulse that reflects both Gary’s musical sensibilities and Cab’s classic bluegrass feel.

The band also regularly features special guests—including Max Wareham, Caleb Swan, and other at-large musicians from across the region—adding fire, finesse, and personality to each performance. This flexible lineup keeps the sound dynamic while maintaining a strong, consistent musical center.
